melbourne and mornington suggestions?

just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of things to do in the mornington peninsula? wineries, op shops, antique centres, special beaches, markets? we'll be in rye next week and i'm just starting to look around online for activities to fill our days - besides lounging around, reading and stuffing our faces full of good food, that is. also, if you have any good melbourne must see recommendations, i'd love to hear them. here's the list i've started so far:

• healesville sanctuary & brewery for lunch
• chapel street bazaar + prahran market
• south melbourne market + walk around albert park lake
• DFO
• harbourtown/observation wheel (free movies on thurs/fri - collectors market on sundays)
• great ocean road (2 nights)
• phillip island
• moonlight cinema (january 1st, breakfast at tiffany's?)
• dayelsford day trip
• st kilda + esplanande
• queen vic market or night market

thanks in advance!! xox

  2. In summer there are great free concerts in the Fitzroy gardens with a whole variety of music.
Also the daily fairy show for kids, also free, is fabulous.
Don't miss a visit to the Ian Potter children's garden at the Botanic gardens.
Can you see my world is currently kid focussed!

    Enjoy!

  3. brunswick st and gertrude st fitzroy, including rose st artist markets on a sat. cafes and lots of shopping for crafted delicious things.
if you do chapel st, the toorak end is very upmarket, but the windsor end is more artsy + casual. must go to amici cafe opposite the town hall-the food is to die for.
    have fun!

  6. catch the ferry from Sorrento over to Queenscliff and have a look around the Bellarine. Including the most wonderful shop - ocean trader at Portarlington, and some wineries like Scotchmans Hill!

In Melbourne, well where to start... CERES definitely a good one. Rooftop cinema, shakespeare in the gardens, farmers markets and so much other goodness. Have a look at this for some lovely ideas...www.slowguides.com.au/
Enjoy this beautiful state of ours!

  7. I would recommended Tucks Ridge winery on the Mornington Pennisula. Great view and stunning food and wine. Although, can be expensive, so make it a special lunch/dinner trip.

Also, Cornell's fish shop (just past Blair Gowrie is great. Grab some seafood for dinner. It feels great to enjoy local produce while the sun sets!

  8. from Rye you can go to Sorrento, nice strip of cafes and shops. The pub there is nice for an easy meal.

    Botanical gardens are a must.

    Fitzroy, good shopping.

ZiguZagu in Richmond, just near Swan street...great Japanese vintage fabrics.

stroll through the city through the small alleyways starting from the Flinders Street end and you'll end up towards the mall. Not much in the mall itself, but great little eateries on the way.

Daylesford...make the effort if you can. Beautiful place.

i always thought you were from Melbourne!

  9. Hi Leslie, have fun-
there are some lovely bush walks around Arthur's Seat,
'Seawinds' is a nice park up that way,
the Maze on Purvis Rd in Main Ridge is fun when Mae is bigger! You must go to Red Hill and the market is on the 4th of Jan I think!
The beaches on the Westernport side are wild and wooly! Flinders is gorgeous-are you taking Bax? He would love it!
There's a shop called 'Tree' in Flinders, I always wanted to visit(haven't been yet despite rellies living close by!)
