"chair and mandatory dachshund" photos

thrift shop chair

thrift shop chair

okay, so the cushion is nothing to brag about but the chair itself, i think, is fabulous! and so comfy with it's long, low profile. i don't know when i'm going to get around to it but i can't wait to sand the wood down and give it a rich, waxy coat. and what fabric to redo the cushion in? i'll have to keep my eye out for something perfect over the next few weeks...

bax seems very keen to get in every photo lately. he follows me around constantly
and always wants to check out whatever is holding my interest. cutey : )

  2. I saw a similar chair refurb in a magazine a few months ago, Real Living, I think. They recovered the cushion in one of the older Amy Butler home dec fabrics and it turned out really stunning.

  3. What a great chair. I'd go for a blood red patterned fabric - but thats just me.
Thanks for the nigella tip. Headed over there myself to grab a bargain also!

  4. Thanks for your thoughts on my blog. Maggie is home today and doing much better. Have been reading your blogs and can relate to the all the reno's! We have been building a brand new house for two years and are about 3 weeks off moving?! Hope to blog about it soon!
Love the chair! Can't wait to start looking for bits and pieces myself!

Looks similar to a William Morris chair, though a later period. I would talk to an antiques dealer to find out more about it before sanding it down...they often know gentler ways of restoring these things without stripping them of their value. I've heard many lament the end-result of a well-meaning but misguided sanding & rewaxing effort. Anyway, it's a beautiful chair. Enjoy it :-)
